Restoring Health From the Inside Out—and From the Ground Up

Functional medicine and chiropractic care for chronic illness, fatigue, hormone imbalance, and foot and knee dysfunction.

Hello! I’m Dr. Serena Elhard, a chiropractor and functional medicine provider at Arne Wellness Center in Highlands Ranch, CO. For over 22 years, I’ve helped individuals navigate complex and chronic conditions—everything from persistent fatigue and hormone imbalances to mold and Lyme-related illness, gut dysfunction, metabolic issues, and immune challenges.

My practice blends advanced diagnostic testing with innovative therapies rarely found in one clinic. Along with functional blood chemistry analysis and specialized lab testing, our center offers ozone IV therapy, ozone sauna, infrared sauna, deep infrared red light, PEMF for bone healing and osteopenia, cold laser therapy, hydrogen therapy, ozone insufflation, spinal and cervical decompression, and regenerative peptide therapy.

In addition to biochemical and functional lab evaluation, I incorporate energetic “muscle testing” for difficult cases involving fatigue, hormones, digestion, or immune imbalance. I use optimal reference ranges—not just disease ranges—along with clinical biochemistry to understand how nutrient deficiencies and physiological patterns contribute to symptoms. For example, a low CO₂ on a blood test often correlates with B1 deficiency, which may affect nerve inflammation, blood sugar handling, and even weight trends.

I am currently mentoring in Electrodermal Screening with the BodyScan to offer a deeper, adjunctive lens for identifying imbalances that can be overlooked by conventional testing.

My Journey Into Natural Medicine

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by health and the way the body heals. Back in the early 1990s, as a early teen, I devoured every article I could find on nutrition and exercise. My passion wasn’t driven by fear of disease — it was driven by the desire to stay active and mobile for life.

I grew up skiing, running, riding horses, and playing basketball—always seeking ways to stay active and mobile. A sports-related back injury and chronic ankle sprains, knee pain, and plantar fascitis introduced me chiropractic and feet and knee treatments.

At the same time, years of antibiotics left me with skin and digestive issues until herbal remedies changed my trajectory and opened my eyes to natural healing.

In college, I was initially accepted into a naturopathic medical program, but a severe ankle sprain that resolved rapidly with chiropractic care inspired me to pursue chiropractic medicine instead—especially once I learned I could combine it with nutrition and holistic care.

Even later, during chiropractic school, I developed autoimmune thyroid disease and struggled with candida and mold-related issues. These experiences deepened my commitment to functional medicine and the belief that chronic symptoms always have a root cause.

I eventually moved to Colorado, practiced independently, and then spent nearly 20 years in a collaborative primary care chiropractic clinic before joining Arne Wellness Center.

My Approach & Philosophy

I believe the most effective care starts with listening. Your symptoms form a story—and every injury, stressor, infection, chemical exposure, or period of nutrient deficiency becomes part of that story.

Many health issues are the result of dys-functions beneath the surface-  like the bottom of an iceberg:

  • Nervous system overload

  • Nutrient deficiencies

  • Chronic inflammation

  • Hormone disruption

  • Gut and immune imbalance

  • Poor biomechanics or instability in the feet and knees

My goal is to uncover those underlying drivers- not just treat the symptoms.

My biomechanics training helps me address complex issues involving the feet, knees, hips, pelvis, and gait, while my functional medicine background focuses on internal health — gut, hormones, immune system, metabolism, cognition, and energy.

Patients often tell me they feel “lighter,” “more grounded,” or finally able to sleep or think clearly after care — a reflection of what happens when the body is given the right support to realign, regulate, and heal.

Outside the Clinic

For years I have enjoyed skiing, mountain biking, roadbiking, interval training,  and hiking. My biggest passion has been west coast swing dancing and competing which I took up in 2009.  I am guilty with spending personal time researching but do love downtime with my husband, history, antiques, working on our home projects, and enjoying the daily antics of our two cats.
